A GREEN PEPPER STORY
Once upon a time in a land far away, there lived a family. This family owned a little, tiny, really small grocery store in a little, tiny, really small town. One day, the store got an accidental delivery of 2 cases of California Wonder Green Peppers. The deliveryman would not take them back!
The father and his 10-year old daughter were very upset. This little, tiny, really small grocery store only sold a few green peppers a YEAR. So, the father said, “I will bet you that we can sell all these peppers by the end of the day.” The girl was not so sure. “How can we sell this many peppers? We don’t even have this many customers. “
The father had a plan. He started chopping a few of the peppers, got the hot plate from the back room and began to fry the peppers in oil. The smell was delicious.
Starting at that moment, every person who came into the little, tiny, really small grocery store, left with green peppers. Children who came in for a bag of penny candy, (I told you this was a long time ago.) were given lessons on “carving” green peppers into Jack O’ Lanterns or making a Cinderella carriage, or forts for toy soldiers. Women who came into get some milk, left with peppers and recipes for a week of great food. The deliveryman came to fill the potato chip racks and left with green peppers, a loaf of bread and a can of tuna. The mailman was treated to a meal of fried green peppers and a fresh roll with the promise that he would tell everybody on his route about the great California Wonder Green Peppers.
Devoting an entire day to selling the green peppers was exhausting but fun. The father and daughter had a great time thinking of new things to do with green peppers, then telling their customers about it.
